Yogis of Ukraine:
Finding Inner Peace — Ukraine’s Yoga Warriors

The companion book to the documentary film
A war told by women, in their own words, at full length.

Step Inside the Story of Resilience

YoU Book Mock-Up.jpg

In the film, thirty-five Ukrainian women speak for 98 minutes.

In the book, they speak for as long as they need to.

As missiles fell on Ukraine, hundreds of women gathered to train as yoga teachers. Yogis of Ukraine book brings together their expanded interviews (teachers, mothers, medics, volunteers, women who chose to stay)

and director Bob Degus’s journal from the war zone.

They came to learn yoga. What they describe goes much further: what living beside death taught them about fear, love and presence, and what remains human when everything else collapses.

Inside the book...

A look inside the book, set to music from Sandrine Rudaz’s original score for the film.

Why a book?

At test screenings, audiences asked for more. The film could hold only a fraction of what these women said, much of it spoken in Ukrainian and Russian and understood by the director only months later, in translation. The book gives that testimony room, interwoven with the journal he kept while filming.

This documentary invites a deeper reflection on what remains human in conflict - not only through the women it portrays, but through the act of witnessing itself.
